Hey everybody, Doctor Kevin here from the Center for Health and Human Potential. A mother shared with us that her five-year-old boy is actually now starting to play with other kids at the park. Before he’d be sitting off on his own playing by himself, not interacting with other kids, but now he’s actually going up to them, trying to pull them and play with them as the games that they’re playing and being more interested in these kids. It’s really awesome to see that. We do need that social interaction for our brain development. So it’s really awesome that the boy is now starting to interact with other kids his age. Hope everyone’s doing well and take care.

- What is Chiropractic?
Hey everybody, Doctor Kevin here from the Center for Health and Human Potential. Today I’m actually going to give you a reminder to smile.
I was having a conversation with a woman yesterday as I passed her and I realized I was smiling my mask. First thing I said, it’s so great even though I can’t see your smile, I can see it through your eyes and your cheeks.
That’s the best thing about working with kids to say a little boy ran into my office and was super excited, came up, give me a hug, and kiss on my chest.
And I can just see the smile gleaming off this child was really great to see he was doing fantastic. He was super happy today. I was just amazed at how happy he was.
So, today’s your reminder to smile.
We find a lot of people walking around with all doom and gloom on their faces. I know these times have been difficult on a lot of different people and including ourselves and everyone else out in the world.
I know it’s hard to keep her head up at times, but today, if you can give yourself a smile on the meter or give a smile to a stranger, that’s walking on the street with you.
Just give it to them. Smiling actually improves our mood.
When we smile, it actually stimulates our brain for things. There’s a party going on inside of it. And it starts to release endorphins and serotonin. So we get all these feel-good hormones, and now it gets released into the body.
Smiling could improve your mood. It can also make you look thinner and make you look younger. So, I’m going to smile a lot more so I can keep those things going.
Hey everybody, Doctor Kevin here. Please excuse my hair and the wind.
Out on my morning walk and I want to tell you why I walk every day, why I make that decision.
I was speaking with a woman a few days ago, and she told me that she made all the excuses of reasons.
Why not go to the gym, even though she had the time to do it, she just had to make the time.
So I decided to take the time for myself to get out and walk every morning. And the reason why I’m doing that, it’s not only for the weight loss benefits but also for a healthy lifestyle.
Walking increases your heart rate. It gets your blood pumping. It can help prevent or manage various conditions such as vascular disease, type two diabetes, lots of benefits of getting out there, walking also strengthens your bones and muscles.
Every time we take a step, our bones react to that step. And it builds on itself and it makes them stronger.
So that’s the reason why I get out and walk every day. What is something that you do every single day that you’d like to share with us?
Hey everybody, Doctor Kevin here from the CENTER FOR HEALTH AND HUMAN POTENTIAL. Today, I’m actually sharing a message with you that was asked upon me by a little boy in the office who we’re going to call E. E asked me to talk about over-extending and bending back weight too far. And another question I often get all the time is, is it okay if I crack my own back?
Well, it’s not. So a lot of times when people are trying to bend back really far or twist really far, you’re actually doing a lot more harm than good. Even though it may feel good to have those pops or those cracks that you hear. Those are actually gases being released. When you do that, when you force it, you’re actually undoing all the work that we are doing.
The reason why is because when you forced your body to move into regions that aren’t supposed to be, it actually goes back to old patterns. But if you were to just wake up and move and like just twist to start walking and things move, that’s okay. Because that means your body’s making its own adjustments throughout the day.
Thank you very much, E for your input on having my topic for today. So I hope everyone is doing very well and take care.
What do you do to relax after a long day?
For my personal self, I actually go home. I de-stressed by actually going for a walk. I started my new year’s resolution as I wanted to walk at least 9,000 steps a day.
I got myself a fitness watch to keep track of all of that and I hit that every single day.
I’m doing my best to keep it up.
The question for you is, what is it that you do to relax after a long day.
Is it a sit in the jacuzzi, take a long warm shower?
Feel free to share what it is that you do to relax after a long day hope everyone’s doing well.
Chiropractic is very effective for many different health issues. However, the truth is that chiropractic is not a treatment for any condition per se.
Vertebral subluxation, a misalignment of the spine, causes nervous system dysfunction which in turn causes an altered function
Chiropractic has a long history of positive results for migraine and headache sufferers.
My clinical experience has been the same for just about every individual that has entered my office suffering from headaches or migraines as well.
Robin was one of those individuals. Watch the video to hear her story.
There are hundreds of similar stories in the literature and thousands and thousands more that have never been properly documented.
But what has the research shown us and why does chiropractic help those with migraines and headaches?
Chiropractic and Migraines Research
One case series looked at the effects of chiropractic on migraine sufferers. Amazingly, the frequency of episodes was reduced on average by 90%, duration of each episode by 38%, and use of medication was reduced by 94%. In addition, several associated symptoms were substantially reduced, including nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia. (1)
In a larger study, a group of 87 patients with common or classical migraine received chiropractic adjustments and the results were analyzed two years later via a headache questionnaire. Of the patients with common migraine, 85% of females and 50% of males were either improved or their headaches ceased altogether, while patients with classical migraine showed an improvement rate of 78% for females and 75% for males. (2)
In one of the largest randomized controlled studies on the topic so far, 72% of the chronic migraine sufferers had noticeable improvement with 22% of those having over 60% of their symptoms reduced. Frequency of migraines, length of time they had them and the need for medication were all significantly reduced. (3)
In a more recent study, chiropractic care was shown to reduce migraine symptoms significantly and when compared to other provider types, the chiropractic patients reported a greater reduction in pain associated with their attacks. (4)
Another study showed that chiropractic was at least as effective as various medications without the potential serious side effects those medications carry with them. (5)
Overall, the literature is ripe with case studies and despite the limited number of clinical studies on the topic, the results have been very encouraging. (6)
Why Does Chiropractic Work for Migraines and Headaches?
The answer to that question lies in the anatomy of the upper neck.
The lower portion of the brainstem sits at the level of the first bone in the neck. That area also houses the main blood supply which travels up through that bone and the opening into the skull.
Shifts in spinal structure, known as vertebral subluxation, which are caused by the body’s inability to handle excessive physical, mental and chemical stressors, will necessarily impact the delicate nerve fibers and vascular supply that travels through this region.
Severe head pain is simply the natural response to a situation that is damaging to the body.
Is Chiropractic a Treatment for Migraines and Headaches?
Chiropractic is no more a treatment for headaches than it is for autism, sensory processing disorder, epilepsy and other conditions people present with in my office. However, with that said, the quality of life of these individuals and their symptoms improve once stress has been removed from the nervous system.
Those results speak for themselves and can transform lives.
Today, more and more people are understanding the value of having their spine and nervous system’s checked throughout a lifetime in order to maintain optimal health, function and well-being.
Chiropractic is great at helping the sick get well, but it is equally fantastic and helping them stay that way.
Whatever the case, having a chiropractic evaluation is the first step in both directions.

Mental Health and Chiropractic
When I tell people about the improvements we see for individuals with anxiety, depression and other debilitating mental and emotional health challenges they are quite surprised as most people incorrectly associate chiropractic solely with musculoskeletal disorders such as neck and low back pain, headaches and other similar issues related to the spine.
What most people don’t yet know is that chiropractic is only concerned with the spine because it houses and protects the vital and delicate nervous system.
Our nervous system is our master system
We rarely think about our nervous systems yet this incredible system is responsible for our entire experience of the world, how we see and perceive it and the way we interact with it.
It performs countless processes for us every second of the day, constantly working to produce optimal health, function and survival as well as feelings of safety, security and well-being.
Yet how often do we have the health and function of that system assessed?
How often are we checking to see if there may be a problem with it?
What if the nervous system was so stressed that it was causing our bodies to be in a state of constant anxiety, stress, sickness and disease?
This is a very simple yet profound concept that has been overlooked for centuries.
Fortunately for Whitney, her mother discovered chiropractic through a presentation I was giving on neurodevelopmental disorders.
Her mother was desperate.
Whitney was severely depressed, suicidal and nothing they tried over the past decade was working.
After begging her daughter to come to an initial evaluation, Whitney reluctantly came in.
After all, what could chiropractic possibly offer her that nothing else had yet?
What happened next changed Whitney’s life forever.
When there is a shift in normal spinal structure impacting the delicate nervous system, it is known as vertebral subluxation.
Her test results clearly showed that her nervous system was in an extreme state of distress and dysfunction and that the likely source was a misalignment of her upper neck known as a vertebral subluxation.
Upon examining her spine I did indeed find a severe subluxation in her neck.
I assessed the position of the vertebra, determined the best method to correct the position and restore balance to her nervous system, and then adjusted her neck.
That moment is one I’m sure she nor I will ever forget.
It was the moment that Whitney’s health and life were restored by removing a major source of interference to her nervous system function.
Her entire life experience had been distorted. Not only was vertebral subluxation distorting the way she was feeling, but it was literally distorting the way she was seeing and experiencing the world.
What we all need to know… and share.
Whitney gave me permission to share her story because of how dramatically it impacted her life and because she believes everyone deserves to know what chiropractic is and how it can potentially help so many.
For Whitney, chiropractic saved and restored her life.
While you are probably thinking of friends or family members who may be suffering with emotional and mental challenges, keep in mind that the nervous system is involved in every function and process of the body. If the nervous system is not functioning properly, it will necessarily lead to decreased health, function and quality of life.
The information everyone needs to know is simple. It’s contained in these five simple facts.
Growing research is not only showing how general stress negatively affects the brain, but also specifically how altered spinal alignment and range of motion negatively affects the brain.
In a 2016 paper found in the journal, Neural Plasticity, it was found using fMRI that adjusting vertebral subluxations altered somatosensory processing particularly in the prefrontal cortex.
Other researchers also using fMRI are finding that vertebral subluxation in the upper neck “can affect or cause neural compromise, and/or some may contribute to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow obstruction as well as arteriovenous compromise.” Of particular importance to note is that correcting the misalignment shows improved venous and cerebrospinal fluid flow.
Many others are out there just waiting for someone to share this with them so they can have the opportunity to find out if nervous system interference is drastically impacting their life and function.
Please consider sharing this on social media and through other channels. You never know how far reaching such a simple act can be.

While he does care for entire families and adult individuals as well, his practice focus is upon this unique population because he believes it is crucial to maintain optimal neurological and structural balance throughout these important developmental periods for optimal health, function and well-being.
Most parent have many great questions when it comes to any healthcare decision for their child. I personally know that we researched and interviewed several pediatric dentists before selecting one to provide care for our son.
I would expect no different from parents looking to bring their child to a chiropractor.
While I am always happy to communicate over the phone prior to an initial consultation, here are some of the common questions and additional information all parents deserve to understand when making this important decision.
Why does my child need to be checked by a chiropractor?
Some parents might be wondering why their child needs a chiropractic evaluation. This question is best answered by bringing awareness to the potential for spinal injuries that commonly occur with the birth process or as the child is learning to walk.
According to Dr. Abraham Towbin in Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, “The birth process even under optimal controlled conditions is potentially a traumatic, crippling event for the fetus… During the final extraction of the fetus, mechanical stress imposed by obstetrical manipulation–even the application of standard orthodox procedures may prove intolerable to the fetus.” 1
The pressure, force and twisting of the head and neck that occurs at birth can place considerable strain on the delicate nerves, muscles and ligaments in this region. In two separate studies looking into the rate of occurrence of spinal trauma, it was found that trauma of various degrees to the head and neck occurs in 80-90% of newborns. 2, 3
Because birth trauma is a very real potential problem with even the most natural birth, it is extremely important that infants be checked by a doctor trained in the detection of these problems.
The chiropractor who specializes in the care of infants and children is specially trained to detect structural and neurological imbalances and provide care to address those imbalances.
Dr. Tullius has been a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association for over 10 years, has undergone numerous continuing education in this area of practice and is also currently enrolled in a 200 hour program dedicated specifically to the care of infants and children.
Is chiropractic care safe for infants and children?
Chiropractic care for infants and children has been shown to be exceedingly safe for children of all ages as well as adults. 4, 5, 6
Can chiropractic help my child with colic, digestive issues, ear infections, developmental delays, etc.?
After birth, many infants experience difficulty breast feeding, colic, digestive issues, torticollis (head stuck to one side), failure to thrive, and delays in crawling, sitting and walking.
These problems are all signs of dysfunction and may be associated with structural injuries impacting the nervous system. While the purpose of chiropractic is never to treat conditions or diseases, addressing structural and neurological dysfunction can have a wide impact on our overall health, healing and well-being.
The exact changes for each child cannot be known, however, a child, or adult for that matter, is always better off without structural and neurological imbalance.
Will my child grow out of it?
Stressed and worried parents are commonly told their children will “grow out of it.”
The truth is, children do not grow out of things. They grow IN to them.
By neglecting problems at birth and early development, we are potentially setting our children up for a lifetime of more deeply ingrained patterns that can develop in to chronic problems.
This is why more and more parents are choosing to have their infants and children checked soon after birth and at various developmental milestones by a chiropractor.
Because Dr. Tullius is focused on the care of infants, toddlers and children, his office is especially equipped to care for them in a warm, caring, nurturing and fun environment.
